Distance Covered:

High water was 2.30 so arrived around 12.30 after a queue at Hindhead. The tide was already in the lagoon and it seemed windyish. Debating whether to go for 5.5 or 6.5 but after seeing a number of 5.8 merchants doing a bit of blubbing decided to go big. Quite a few out, and for once hardly anybody staying in the lagoon. It was good to look up to the top end of the harbour and see a row of sails hooning back down.

I was planing pretty much non-stop thanks to the 6.5. Took the GPS out for the first hour or two and only twice managed to top 20 knots, which was a bit disappointing. I must have gone at least twice that after I put the GPS away. Not that I was equipped for speed sailing exactly but I was well powered up and normally get a max well above 20.

So other than a lot of sailing in warm sunshine, and plenty of semi-elegant and dry gybes, not much to report. Packed up as I was becoming tired rather than because the wind dropped or the tide went out.

A good cup of coffee in the Ship with Bill who was down from Brum for a couple of days. Not quite exciting enough for 5 stars but still a top day.
